If you're in the neighborhood, you should play this course. The conditions are perfect, the greens are smooth and fast, the fairways are like thick carpet. The layout is just plain fun with so much variety. I used all 14 of the clubs in my bag. The holes are not terribly long with generous landing areas off the tee, but the routing and terrain make you think. FR will test your shot making but more importantly it will test your course management.

Anytime I play a course where my threesome finishes in 3.5 hours for regulation 18 holes makes me love golf even more! Fox Ridge was just that and a whole lot more.

FR is one of the few courses in Maine that has a grass driving range and its situated right across the street from the first tee. The course layout was a lot of fun but challenging if you don't hit your spots off the tee. There were several blind tee shots and certain hazards and doglegs prevent you from hitting a driver on every hole. I enjoyed the variety and up and downs of the rolling hills that the course sits on. With an island green and a few approach shots over the large lake on property, the "wow" factor is ever-present at Fox Ridge.

Fox Ridge is not an overwhelmingly demanding course, but you need to be able to hit the ball straight and know where to hit it and where not to hit it. On a busy Friday we had a clear demonstration of that. Golfers were all over the place - in hazards that sneak up on you, in dense woods along fairways and in native grasses that are 5 feet tall and impossible to find a ball in. I think on a few holes the native grasses, which may be harvestable hay, are too close to cart paths and fairways. One hard bounce on an errant shot and a 4 man search is on in this punishing vegetation. I think less hay and more rangering would help the overall Fox Ridge experience. There are many great holes here though. The 5th is a par 3 of varying lengths, with a semi-island green. This is a fun one for public players. On the back the 14th is a sharp dogleg right, that could be drivable, but a lay up may be wiser. It has a twisting, pitched green that is an equalizer. The 18th is a short dogleg right that has hazards long and right and the second shot is all carry to a tricky green that sits below the festive 19th hole deck. Fox Ridge is a great course to go sample for yourself. Like so many courses, it had a tough winter and still had 2 greens that were more than 50% grassless in late July. I hope the course comes back late in the season. Once the greens are totally back it will be worth the drive to inner Auburn.

Only issue I had was the 90degree rule was in effect, but there was very little posted about it. We didn't find out about it until the 11th hole. Almost felt scolded by the staff. Typically courses place signs at the first and 9th Tee boxes informing you of the 90 degree.

This is a great place to play. Very peaceful and natural setting. Course has it's challenges for sure but like always keep the ball in play and you will be fine.
