White Heron Golf Club (formerly known as Ridgewood Lakes Golf Club) has had many accolades over its history and for good reason. The Ted McAnlis layout is sculptured from lush rolling land and features immaculate playing conditions year round. Water and natural wetlands come into play on 16 of our 18 holes and the resident breeze can significantly change the course from day to day. Yet despite the natural beauty and obvious pedigree of the layout, with four sets of tees the course is still enjoyable for golfers of all levels.

The greens putted true and fair, the tees are flat and very well groomed, and the fairway grass was a treat to play from. This is a must play course, and well worth the money.

The group running this course has done a great job. It was left for dead as Ridgewood Lakes and now has been brought back to life as White Heron. Great conditions. Tough layout. Very cost effective right now as well. Keep up the great work.

New owner/management are doing a great job turning this course around. Most greens were very good. Greens play a little slow. Fairways were excellent. Bunkers were excellent. Golf carts were the nicest I have ever seen at a course. Definitely recommend the course and look forward to playing again.

I read some reviews but remained uncertain until my arrival. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The carts are the best and most comfortable I have used and the course was interesting and challenging. There are some rough spots...tees are inconsistent and a couple of greens have bad spots, but our group really enjoyed our round and will go back in a heartbeat.

I played on 10/15/20. It was might first visit to this course. This course is located in a retirement/snowbird community. So, you would think that the course might be designed with a below to slightly above average golfer in mind, with 50+ years of life experience. Nope....absolutely terrible layout. The course is doomed to failure because not many people are going to play this course a second time. Let me start by saying the course was completely revamped and re-opened in March 2020, according to their website. We played from the white tees, about 6300 yds. And the conditions were average to above average. Several poor condition tee boxes but good greens that rolled true. So, who will enjoy this course? Well, if you like hitting irons off the tee to 20 yd wide fairways, then hitting woods to reach greens that are still 200+ yards out, then this course is for you. If you like really narrow fairways with very little rough, dense areas of pampas grass clusters and water on every hole, both right next to the fairway, then this is your course. Hole 7 requires about a 160 tee shot to the dogleg right fairway turn, leaving you 225 yds to the green, with a 20 yd wide fairway the entire length. Alternately, you could hit driver, but you must carry to 230 to 250 yds over 30 to 60 foot high oak and pine trees. Houses and OB down the right side of those trees so don't catch a tree on your attempt with driver! Hole 11, max drive distance of 210 to 220 or you wind up in the lake or again, the absurdly abundant areas of pampas grass. Again, 20 yd wide fairway. If you did that correctly, you have a 170 to 180 yds to the green and the fairway narrows to less than 15 yds wide. Not the end of the world, but it get worse. Hole 14, dumbest of all holes in my opinion. Tee shot max length is about 180 yds to end of fairway. Again, dense pampas grass and deep bunker awaits a too long drive. Now, break out the long irons and woods because you have about 200 yds to the green with NO fairway from this point on. Hole 15 is a short par 3, with a pot bunker IN THE GREEN. I think it should be called, "The Clown's Mouth bunker". You can literally hit a tee shot onto the green and then be required to chip OVER the bunker. Alternately, you could putt left or right around the bunker leaving you at least 30 feet from the hole, based on the pin position on the day we played. Finally, on 18, a drive over 200 yards must land on a 10 yd wide fairway or be lost in the wetland on the left or the canal on the right. The fairway is reasonably wide at about 35 yds up to 200 yds from the tee box, then abruptly narrows to 10 yds. If you enjoy using your driver, this course layout will steal your joy. Oh...and a couple more things....who ever provided the pampas grass made a fortune. They are everywhere along the edges of fairways. These are large clumps of 2' tall grass, spaced about a foot apart. Any ball hit into these areas has a 90 to 95% chance of being unplayable or just lost. Did I mention water on nearly every hole? Water is everywhere and well hidden from view on several holes. A ball 2 yard from the fairway on many holes may be completely unplayable, lying in the pampas grass or one of the many ponds and lakes. The people running the course were very nice and helpful. The carts are AWESOME, quiet, fast and have an absolutely necessary huge GPS display with aerial depictions of the holes that are essential unless you've played this goofy golf course four or five times already. You'll need to refer to the GPS pictures because water is well hidden. Wait, I forgot to mention, the carts have black vinyl seats. Hello, McFly!!!!....this is Florida.!!! Bring a towel to sit on or prepare to sear your thighs and butt if you play between May and November. Greens rolled true and reasonably fast. Trap sand was perfect, white and fluffy. Fairways were mostly good except for a few wet areas. Unfortunately, I don't think even perfect conditions will bring out the golfers to keep this course viable. There are just too many fun golf course options in this region of the state. If attendance gets too low, maybe they will offer a free round for a tee shot into the clown's mouth on 15.

I like the lay out however mistakes are severely punishing, not a lot of room to scramble. As always the fairways are very, very wet.

I was surprised to see the change of cart policy. If my playing partner and I wanted separate carts we had to pay extra. We were told “new rules” were now in place. The only change was carts, still no rakes, know ball washers and noodles are still in the cup with no flag touching. Inconsistent policy.

The Ridgewood lakes layout was always tight, with a lot of water in play. Now new ownership has changed the name and done extensive plantings of tall grass throughout the course making it tighter and slower to play. Off target shots will end up up in the tall grass and searching for your ball will slow you down and take the enjoyment out of your round.

It has been raining in Central Florida for a number of days in a row; Thence; course was wet and balls plugged. Same story on all golf courses in area. I did not use any of the amenities. Greens were punched four days prior and I was aware prior to booking. Overall, the track is a good layout that challenges you to think on the tee. There are a number of holes were you have to lay back or you can decide to go for it. Truly, a second shoot course. Not much area to miss to left or right on a number of holes. Greens present a small profile but have ample space front to back. All bunkers were in very good shape. I will try to play again when the rainy season has ended and the greens grow out.

Absolutely no signage. None. No 150 markers.

One hole was a par 5. After my drive I noticed I was near the flag (more like a par 3) we were confused. They moved the flag way up from another green. No signage to hole 10. Just 3 holes across the street (13-15) then back across to where you started for the remaining holes. Weeds on the course. Very wet. Balls would plop and sink every time. No bev cart. No beer or wine for sale. We wasted a ton of time lost on the course because there was absolutely no signage.
