Every hole is memorable, shot values are terrific and this Robert Trent Jones classic was in excellent shape. What's not to like? Arguably Puerto Rico's best golf course, and certainly its most famous, TPC Dorado Beach is a must-play when visiting the island.

The course has also finally recovered from Hurricane Maria a year and a half ago, There was no evidence on the courses of the devastation that wreaked havoc on the island. In fact, it may have opened the course up a little. What remains are 18 terrific holes, punctuated by the signature par-5 fourth with its Caribbean backdrop.

Excellent caddie service completes the experience.

Expected more for the price and TPC name. Course was nice and conditions were solid. In no way were any shot affected by any poor conditions of the course. Pace of play was great as the course was pretty empty. Cart girls cane around often. Arrive early as the first tee is a 10 minute cart ride from the clubhouse. Overall I enjoyed the round and experience I just think for the price I expected more.

Course was very dry and tee boxes were uncut which made for a less than perfect experience.

Pro shop staff was very friendly and accommodating. I did not take a caddy as the course was empty and was not offered one. Scenic venue was watered down by poor conditions. I would probably play it again because I ’m a sucker for the TPC designation.

Dorado Beach East course is the best of the two courses at TPC Dorado Beach and it never disappoints.

You have spectacular ocean views on several holes including #1, #9 and #18 along with others. The greens are very fast compared to other courses in Puerto Rico. There are some interesting hole layouts along with lots of challenges. The signature hole, the par-5 fourth, is one of the best risk-reward holes you can play.

Great practice facility and the wind is always blowing on the practice facility.

The price is pretty steep, especially compared to other very nice courses on the island (Bahia Beach, Royal Isabella, etc.). However, you are playing a TPC course which are always in nice condition.

The East is the best of the lot of the three courses at TPC Dorado Beach and it doesn't disappoint. Speedy greens, interesting holes and a few views of the ocean make this an enjoyable ride throughout. The signature hole, the par-5 fourth, is one of the best risk-reward holes you'll ever play. Take it over the water to the left with a hook and you can have iron into the green, which is also guarded by water. The reward could be an eagle putt with the Atlantic in the background.

The first time I played the Dorado Beach Resort & Club's East Course in 2006 the large Hyatt hotel had just shut down and the everything looked like a ghost town. The course didn't offer much in the way of conditioning or a memorable round.
My second trip in 2011 to see the restoration by Robert Trent Jones Jr. helped me better understand why Dorado was the original celebrity Caribbean hangout.
Dorado's East Course has a storied past, including hosting eight Senior PGA Tour events. The Robert Trent Jones Sr. course opened in 1958 and expanded to 18 holes in 1966. Chi Chi Rodriguez, who worked here in the early 1960s, beat Doug Saunders in a Shell's Wonderful World of Golf event at Dorado in 1964.
The renovation added length to the 7,192-yard course, repositioned bunkers and restored RTJ Sr.'s signature runway tees. The new grass on the greens, ultra-dwarf Champion Bermuda, improved their pace and conditioning. Most important, the clearing of trees and undergrowth created wider fairways and added a critical element that was missing: The ocean is now partially visible from 15 holes. These scenic views won't blow you away, but they will remind you why Dorado once again ranks among the best courses in the Caribbean.
